Search thousands of college scholarships and internship programs. Also try Scholarship.com and Finaid. Most colleges have private scholarships as well, ask at the financial aid office.

Find help in your area for many things. The United Way is a trusted and far reaching organization. Unmet Needs if for Military families that need help. Look through the site, they help in many ways.

Work at Home Resources

Women for Hire has a good site of work at home jobs that have been checked out and found to be legitimate. If childcare is an issue, explore this option. AOL has an article on large companies using home workers.

Small Business Funding

There are loan and grant programs. Look through the site, there is help available to get through the system. Another small site is here. Whether you are starting a daycare in your home or opening a storefront downtown, it’s available. Women and Vets look here. Most states have small business support offices.

HUD Foreclosure Page

Read this and know your rights. This is the most reliable information out there, don’t be taken by scams. Seek help from the legal resources page on this site if you can’t understand exactly what to expect.

Free Mom Magazines and Samples

This mom has put together a nice list of free stuff like coupons and magazines. Here’s an offer for a free kids meal set.

FreeCycle

Find your local branches and post what you need or what you can give. Great for children's items that are outgrown quickly like clothing and toys. Also check Craigslist in your area for free items. A new community site is FreeMesa, same principal, sharing.

Apply for help for small emergencies like car repairs, broken hot water tanks or larger than expected bills.

Daycare Assistance

Assistance and subsidy programs for daycare expenses. Not a lot of programs but enough to explore and possibly find the help that will make a difference. In Alaska or Minnesota check here. In Ohio there are a number of resources listed here. New York has a resource page too.

Locate your state office to apply for help. If you cannot locate what you need send an email to your state office and ask for direction.

From St. Louis Children’s Hospital a free thermometer to keep the bath tub temperature safe for kids. Use code BATH.

Small Interest Free Loans, Minnesota

Five community agencies administer the program's loan funds, Community Action Council, Community Emergency Assistance Program, Episcopal Community Services, Pillsbury Neighborhood Services, and  Ramsey Action Program. These agencies serve low-income people.

National Community Tax Coalition

Find free tax preparation in your area. The IRS has free E-File, be sure you don’t need the help of a professional before you choose this route. Look at the EIC info here. Volunteer tax prep assistance for low income and seniors.

Thrift Store Locator

Find thrift stores by zip code. First try Freecycle of course but if that doesn’t work then try to locate those larger items at thrift stores, etc. Craigslist is a nice classified listing service with garage sales and private sales.

The first step in saving money is using coupons for everything you can! Our list is enormous.
