Emergency Needs Grant Information and Explanation, Welfare Rights Organizing Coalition

DSHS now has three types of emergency grants available to low-income families.  This fact sheet explains what the grants may be used for and how to apply for them.  You may be eligible for these programs whether or not you receive assistance already.

 

Family Support Network, Placentia, CA

They provide items such as cribs, strollers, diapers, high chairs and specialized formulas to families who may have difficulty meeting their needs because of poverty-level income or no income. Families must be referred by a nurse, case manager or social worker.

 

Emergency Assistance Program, Radford, VA

Some kinds of assistance provided may be: transportation, food, clothing, blankets, bed linens, utility payments, household products, furniture, infant needs, prescriptions, rent, mortgage payments, shelter for homeless people, bus/taxi fare, gasoline, car repair, fees for services, personal hygiene products, assistance with letter writing or completing applications, household items, etc.

Arlingtonians Meeting Emergency Needs, Arlington County, VA

An Arlington resident facing financial difficulties due to housing expenses, medical needs, or utility bills, contacts a social worker at a qualifying agency. The social worker, after determining the eligibility of the request, contacts one of our daily volunteers who arranges to have a check available to pick up later on the same day.

 

The Housing and Energy Services Division, Springerville, AZ

Can provides low income assistance for Southern Apache County residents in the communities of Springerville, Eagar, St. Johns, Nutrioso, and Vernon. The Division serves those who are unemployed and under employed, have inadequate education, inefficiently or ineffectively utilize income, maintain inadequate housing, lack the ability to meet emergency needs, or are categorized as starving or malnutritioned.
